Paleoproterozoic compression-like structures from the Changzhougou Formation, China: Eukaryotes or clasts?
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Paleoproterozoic Changzhougou Formation (Changcheng Group) of North China contains compression-like structures, illimeters to centimeters in diameter and about a millimeter thick that are circular, elliptical, elongate, and irregular in shape. hese structures were interpreted to be carbonaceous compressions of megascopic eukaryotes by Zhu et al. (2000). Some of the ompression-like structures were reported to contain masses of cellular material with well-preserved cell walls. Further investigation f these structures, including plane light investigations of thin sections and macerates, petrographic study of thin sections, SEM, DS, CHN, XRD, and biomarker analyses, indicates that they are pseudo-fossils. 2007 Elsevier B.V. A Laurentian record of the earliest fossil eukaryotes
The oldest evidence of eukaryotes in the fossil record comes from a recurrent assemblage of morphologically differentiated late Paleoproterozoic to early Mesoproterozoic microfossils. Although widely distributed, the principal constituents of this Tappania-DictyosphaeraValeria assemblage have not hitherto been recognized on Laurentia. We have recovered all three taxa from a shallow-water shale ...
متن کاملبررسی شیمی کانیها و رخدادهای دگرسانی قطعات پریدوتیتی درون کنگلومرای حوضه کرتاسه پیرانشهر، شمال غرب ایران
The study area forms part of the Zagros Zone. It is located on the NW of Piranshahr town, NW Iran. The study of altered peridotite clasts of the Creteceous conglomerate is the main subject of this research. They have polygenetic origins having calcite as the constituent cement. The size of clast is ranging from mm to cm including sedimentary and metamorphic rocks fragments, altered peridotites ...
متن کاملMetamorphism of basement rocks in the Central Zone of the North China Craton: implications for Paleoproterozoic tectonic evolution
Lithological, structural, metamorphic and geochronological data for the North China Craton enable its division into the Western and Eastern Blocks of Archean to Paleoproterozoic age separated by a north–south trending Paleoproterozoic orogenic belt: the Central Zone. The Central Zone is divisible into a series of lowto medium-grade granite–greenstone belts and high-grade metamorphic terrains co...
متن کاملShock-molten Sandstone Clasts in Impact Melt Rocks: Age Constraints for the Paasselkä Impact Structure (se Finland)
Introduction: The ~10 km in diameter, deeply eroded Paasselkä impact structure [1-3] (Fig. 1), hosted by ~1.9 Ga Paleoproterozoic crystalline rocks of the Svecofennian Domain of the Baltic Shield (e.g., [4]), is the third largest of eleven impact structures currently known in Finland [5]. A recent geological summary of the Paasselkä impact structure and a petrographic-geochemical description of...
متن کاملDecimetre-scale multicellular eukaryotes from the 1.56-billion-year-old Gaoyuzhuang Formation in North China
Fossils of macroscopic eukaryotes are rarely older than the Ediacaran Period (635-541 million years (Myr)), and their interpretation remains controversial. Here, we report the discovery of macroscopic fossils from the 1,560-Myr-old Gaoyuzhuang Formation, Yanshan area, North China, that exhibit both large size and regular morphology. Preserved as carbonaceous compressions, the Gaoyuzhuang fossil...
